The best telescopes are reflective  telescopes and refractive telescopes.

Reflective telescopes uses  high intesity light and places  it on the surface of the mirror.
The reflective telescope actually disperses the light which is placed on the mirror. There are also other types of telescopes.

Refractive telescopes are the most common. these telescopes can be found for sale in most major name brand stores. You have seen these telescopes advertised in local stores or hobby shops. These telescopes are depicted in neighborhood backyards used by the novice. the best reason for these telescopes is that they are maintenance free. The tube is encased from both ends to keep dust and moisture from getting inside on the lens. The drawback of the refractive telescope is that eventually it can form rainbows on the lens which makes it impossible to view distant objects.

Reflective telescopes are used to view distant objects , such as planets and comets. These are a lot bigger telescopes than the refractive telescopes. You will see these in astronomy laboratories,usually located in the center of the room, due to there size. However, due to recent technology , smaller versions are available of the reflective telescope that can be used at home . The main disadvantage is that the tube is not enclosed and it open to the environment.

The last type of telescope is the compound telescope which is a good choice for the novice stargazer which is readily available at most stores that carry telescopes. Compound telescopes are very basic and rarily used by the more advanced astronomers.
